Final Farewell to the Mainstreet Electrical Parade

Since we first heard the news, we have been communicating to you the sad news of the demise of the Main Street Electrical Parade so that you have an opportunity to see it for the las time.

The final runs of the Main Street Electrical Parade are Sunday night at Magic Kingdom. Disney has decided to move the attraction back to Disneyland for what it calls a limited-time encore engagement. Today’s show times are 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., but if you want a very good spot, you’ll need to arrive early. By 8 p.m. last night, every prime sitting location along Main Street was occupied. In a weird way, folks do love to say goodbye.

We watched from Frontierland and compiled a list of six things we’ll miss about MSEP, in honor of the six years it has been in Central Florida — this time around.

1. We’ll start at the beginning. “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” in that techno voice, alerts parade goers that something … different … is about to happen. And truthfully, whenever I even type “Main Street Electrical Parade,” my inner voice sounds like that too.

2. The Cheshire Cat below Alice. The whole disappearing until there’s only a smile behind thing works perfectly with the MSEP theme. Granted, Pete’s Dragon is a bigger, more noted example, but sometimes little things mean a lot. (And I’m really not into all the mushrooms, but that’s just me.)
