Skyplex Orlando Add a New Ride

International Drive’s Skyplex complex isn’t stopping in its quest to find new heart-stopping rides for its guests when it opens in 2019.

Sky Jump joins a lineup of rides like the Skyscraper roller coaster, SkyFall, a 450-foot drop ride, and SkyLedge, an attraction that will allow guests to put on a safety harness and walk — yes, walk — along the outside of the Skyplex tower 600 feet above the ground. Skyplex executives said this type of attraction will be the first of its kind in the U.S.

“We’re creating a new destination, remaking International Drive, and we’re thrilled to be the first location in the United States to offer this attraction,” said Joshua Wallack, the developer of the Skyplex complex, in a prepared statement. “The world’s tallest rollercoaster, the world’s tallest drop ride, and now we’re launching an experience that feels like you are flying. You will be one with the sky and we envision this to be a major draw for tourists and convention delegates to the new I-Drive Entertainment District.”

Wallack acquired rights for the experience, which also operates at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. The Stratosphere experience reaches top speeds of 40 mph as guests descend 829 feet. A similar experience is offered at Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand.

The development, originally expected to cost $500 million, also includes a proposed zip line, a surf park, retail outlets and a 450-room hotel.
